Why do I cut myself?
Do you know the feeling of being weighed down by a heavy emotional load and do you think the world is an incomprehensible and overwhelming place? Can’t sleep either? Or are you just feeling bad without really being able to explain why? Do you ask yourself: “Why do I cut myself?”
You can find help in self-harm counselling.
- Find the tools to meet the world and your relationships, in a way that does NOT make you feel the need to hurt yourself.
- You will come to understand the self-harm you are suffering from and why you are cutting yourself.
- You will build courage, hope and a new sense of connection to yourself and the people and the world around you.
The life you dream about
You will discover that everyone has their very own story, their own motivations, emotions and thoughts. Everyone therefore has their own individual pattern of behaviour and reactions.
You will also learn that you are NOT alone and that it IS possible to get out of a self-harming behaviour. It IS possible for you to live the life of your dreams and stop thinking: “Why do I cut myself?”
It’s something that has hit you
I know how hard it is to believe that you can live a life where self-harm does not dominate… but you can. Self-harm is something that has hit you. There can be many different reasons for this. But the most important thing to remember is that something you are hit by is also something you can get rid of.
Self-harm is a survival strategy that is a sensible response to disturbing circumstances, whether physical or mental. It makes sense that your survival instinct will protect you when your emotions and thoughts are chaotic.
My best friend
I found a huge sense of comfort and safety in my self-harm. It gave me control in a life which I saw as a vast, bewildering chaos. And it became my best friend, for better or worse. It helped me in a way that nothing or anyone else could. It understood me and it never let me down. My self-harming behaviour became such a big part of me that I eventually did not know where it ended and I started.
Maybe you feel like I did? You might feel that there is a kind of mental civil war going on inside your head. Maybe you feel, like I did, that everything is hopeless and that the only thing you can do is drag yourself into this nightmarish inner world?
Support and counselling from someone who has felt it on their own body
When you begin self-harm counselling with me, you get help to go through your own healing process. In my counselling there is room for all kinds of thoughts and emotions, and because I have gone through a similar process, I also understand all the things that can’t be said in words.
A process
Leaving self-harm behind and learning a better way of dealing with your life is a process. But it is NOT impossible to get there! When your self-harm, and your entire picture of yourself, is based on it, it is hard to let go of the reality and the beliefs created by the self-harming behaviour. Everyone finds it hard to let go because everyone has a constant stream of unconscious thoughts running in the back of their mind. These are the stories that determine how we see the world and ourselves. We all have a tendency to try to maintain the familiar versions of our stories because that’s what makes sense of our world.
Chemistry
It is important that there is good chemistry between us and that you feel safe in my company so that I am able to counsel you in the best possible way.
That way we can work together and find what works best for you. I am with you all the way through your process and I am always ready to hold on to hope when you do not have the strength yourself.
Do you want to hear more?
All my counselling is tailored to the individual situation, and the tools you get are based on your specific needs, because no two people are the same. Before the counselling begins, there will always be an unpaid consultation where we will together work out if what I offer is right for you.
If you’d like to hear more, just phone me or send me an email. I am open for counselling by appointment – also evenings and weekends because I believe everyone should be able to get help. So I’m open when you have time.
